pH from H+ Calculator (Easily calculate pH value when [H3O]+ concentration given)

The formula to calculate the pH value from the [H+] or [H3O]+ is –

∴ pH = -log10[H+]

  • Where [H+] represents the concentration of hydrogen ions. Its unit is moles/liter or M.

How to use the “H+ to pH” calculator?

Using the above calculator you can easily calculate the pH value of strong acid from H+ concentration.

  • Enter a [H+] value in the input field labeled “[H+] value=”.
  • Click the “Calculate” button.
  • The result of pH will be displayed in the “result” section with a step-by-step solution.

How to calculate pH from H+?

The pH of a solution is related to [H+] or [H3O]+ by the formula given in the equation.

∴ pH = -log10[H+]

formula to calculate pH from the H+ value

Example of calculating pH value using “H+ to pH calculator”

Let’s say we have given the value of [H+] and we need to calculate the pH value.

For example – Find the pH of a 0.005 M HCl solution.

We know that HCl is a strong acid that completely ionizes to release H+ and Cl ions in water.

⇒ So the concentration of HCl solution = concentration of H+ ions released in the solution. As the concentration or molarity of the HCl solution is given in the question statement i.e., 0.005 M.

∴ So we know [H+] = 0.005 mol/L.

So, just put the value of [H+] in the respective field and then press calculate button.

∴ So, the value for pH for the given [H+] is 2.30 approx.

Example 2: Let’s say the given hydrogen concentration [H+] is 2.5 x 10-4. Now calculate the pH for this value using a calculator.

In this problem, [H+] is given in scientific notation which is 2.5 x 10-4, this value can also be written as “2.5e-4”.

Just put this value of [H+] in the calculator field, and press calculates button to get step by step solution.

So, for the hydrogen concentration of 2.5 x 10-4, the pH will be 3.60 approx.
