The molecular equation of Barium hydroxide and hydrocyanic acid is given below –

The complete ionic equation of Barium hydroxide and hydrocyanic acid is –

⇒ 2H+(aq) + 2CN(aq) + Ba+2(aq) + 2OH(aq) –> Ba(CN)2(s) + 2H+(aq) + 2OH(aq)

The net ionic equation of Barium hydroxide and hydrocyanic acid is –

⇒ Ba+2(aq) + 2CN(aq) –> Ba(CN)2(s)

First of all, the net ionic equation only features “the molecules or ions that are actively involved in the reaction or those that undergo a change”. The spectator ions are not present in the net ionic equation.

So, if you watch the complete ionic equation of Barium hydroxide and hydrocyanic acid –

⇒ 2H+(aq) + 2CN(aq) + Ba+2(aq) + 2OH(aq) –> Ba(CN)2(s) + 2H+(aq) + 2OH(aq)

In the above reaction, the hydrogen ions (H+) and hydroxide ions (OH) don’t change(they have the same charge and state of matter in the reactants and products).

So, they are the spectator ions, hence, remove them from the equation to get the net ionic equation of Barium hydroxide and hydrocyanic acid.
